Easy to grow, this native perennial hails from the Midwest, where it flourishes in prairies, valleys, and meadows. Its height lends well to the back of a perennial garden bed, where it can act as a cover for other plants whose blooms have faded. It may need staking if floppy, or it may also be pinched back in early summer to encourage a bushier form. 'Honeysong Pink' is also lovely planted in groups in a wildflower garden or meadow where it can naturalize. 'Honeysong Pink' prefers average, well-drained soil in a sunny location with consistent moisture (avoid poorly draining clay soils). Give it a bit of space to avoid powdery mildew, and divide it every few years for best health (and more plants). Asters are deer-resistant pollinator favorite that provide much-needed late-season pollen for bees and butterflies, and later, seed for birds. This High Plains native was introduced in 1960 by the Great Plains plantsman Claude Barr. Give this perennial plenty of room to fill in, as it will easily spread to 24\" wide. To create a more dense, compact plant, cut back by one-fourth in early summer. Happy in sun or morning sun with afternoon shade, this Aster will grow in a wide range of soil types, from sandy to average, including clay. Keep soil moderately moist to establish, thereafter, this plant is both drought and heat tolerant. An excellent choice for a wildflower garden or meadow, it will naturalize when happy. Leave plant standing over winter, then cut it back to 1-2\" above ground in early spring. Asters are deer-resistant pollinator favorite that provide much-needed late-season pollen for bees and butterflies, and later, seed for birds. Highly attractive to native bees and butterflies, this plant is an essential nectar source for pollinating insects preparing for winter. Vigorous and unfussy in the garden, 'Raydon's Favorite' Aster grows in rocky, loam and clay soils and withstands difficult growing conditions very well.  It was a top-rated selection in the Chicago Botanic Garden trials, exhibiting exceptional flower production and outstanding winter hardiness. Plant it with Gold Standard Tickseed (Coreopsis 'Gold Standard'), Santa Fe Perennial Sunflower (Helianthus 'Santa Fe'), Prairie Dropseed Grass (Sporobolus) and Santa Fe Phlox (Phlox nana).
