Campanula garganica ‘Dickson’s Gold’ (Adriatic Bellflower) is known for its dense, low mounds of golden-yellow fringed leaves. In late spring to early summer, foliage is covered with loose clusters of star-like blue flowers. It’s an eye-catching addition to a rock garden, pathway, slope, or small garden. A pollinator favorite, the flowers attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. With bright foliage and lovely flowers, this perennial is a great way to boost color all season long.
Description
A European native, Campanula garganica ‘Dickson’s Gold’ (Adriatic Bellflower) was first recorded growing at the base of Italy’s Mt. Gargano in 1827. Its distinctive foliage and plentiful flowers make it much desired as a low-growing groundcover. Plant it in well-drained, medium moisture soils in full-sun to part-shade locations. Once established, it is a waterwise plant. With optimum growing conditions it can be an aggressive spreader, though it is easily controlled by division; growing it in leaner conditions can also help control spreading. The showy, unique look of this plant makes it worth a bit of upkeep, and you can make new friends by sharing divisions.
