Dianthus deltoides ‘Flashing Lights’ (Maiden Pink) greets the late-spring-to-summer garden with a profusion of fringed scarlet-red blossoms that attract bees and butterflies. This is an easy-to-grow, fragrant evergreen perennial with a creeping habit. This plant delights along a border, in a rock garden, or massed as a groundcover. It’s a perfect way to add deer-resistant, high-energy color to a planting bed.
Description
Dianthus deltoides ‘Flashing Lights’ (Maiden Pink) forms loose mats of dark green leaves that are covered in fragrant brilliant red flowers from mid-spring to summer. Plant it in a full-sun location with average, neutral to alkaline well-drained soil. Once established, Dianthus deltoides is drought tolerant and low maintenance. You may shear it back after flowering to encourage reblooming and to tidy up the foliage. Lovely planted with Blue Flax, Veronica, Sedum, and Wildflower Tulips. It is native to Europe and Asia where it is found in dry, chalky, alpine areas. Toxic to dogs, cats, and horses if consumed.
