A rock garden star, Dianthus petraeus ssp. noeanus (Rock Pink) features tiny deeply fringed white flowers, like tiny snowflakes, in mid-summer. The fragrant flowers attract bees and butterflies. This hardy perennial is a nice addition to a rock garden, steppe garden, crevice garden, or small space. The feathery foliage forms evergreen mats, and when mass planted, it makes a great groundcover.
Description
Dianthus petraeus ssp. noeanus (Rock Pink) is right at home in a rock garden or low-maintenance xeriscape. Plant it in a sunny location with average to lean well-drained soil. The delicate, fragrant flowers are nice as cut flowers too. Native to Central Europe from Romania to Bulgaria, Dianthus petraeus can be found growing on calcareous mountain slopes or in dry highland forest edges.
